BPSC Preliminary Examination

This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only; the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit. Main (Written) Examination

The Main Examination is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory. The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducts recruitment exams to fill up vacancies in the state administration. The BPSC Exam Pattern of the respective exams can be found on the official website and in the notification/advertisement.

Exam Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the Civil Services examination, candidates must be graduates or above. Candidates who are about to appear for their final graduation exams are also eligible to appear for this examination.

Important points regarding BPSC Age Limit:

  1. There is no restriction on the number of attempts as long as candidates full the age criteria.
  2. For government employees who have been in continuous service for at least three years:
    • Number of Attempts: 3
    • Relaxation in Upper Age Limit: 5 years
  3. For Persons with Disability (PwD), the upper age limit is relaxed by 10 years.

Ex-servicemen who are not above 53 years of age, can avail BPSC age relaxation of three years plus the number of years in service.   

The minimum age limit for candidates is 21 years and the maximum age limit is 32 years. The upper age limit is further relaxed by 5 years and 3 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC categories respectively.

The BPSC Age Limit for General Category male aspirants is:

  • Minimum Age – 20, 21 and 22 years
  • Maximum Age – 37

The Educational Qualification as per the BPSC Eligibility Criteria is:

  • A Graduate Degree from a recognised University or
  • An equivalent qualification  

The Physical Eligibility Criteria is: ( BIHAR POLICE SERVICE )

Minimum Height

  • General Category (Male) – 5 feet 5 inches
  • Women candidates – 5 feet 2 inches
  • SC/ST – 5 feet 3 inches

Chest

  • General category (Male) – 32 inches
  • SC/ST (Male) – 31 inches

For claiming benefits under reservation, candidates need to:

  1. Have a Bihar Domicile
  2. Mention the reservation category in the BPSC online application

BPSC Prelims Syllabus

There will be only one paper in BPSC Prelims syllabus and it is called General Studies. Various topics covered in General Awareness are explined in the table below.

BPSC Mains Syllabus

There will be two General Studies papers in the BPSC Mains syllabus namely, General Studies I & General Studies II. Apart from these, one compulsory Hindi language paper and one optional subject paper will take place in the BPSC mains test.

BPSC Syllabus 2025 – Physical Standards and Interview

Candidates must possess certain specific physical standards to be eligible for the vacancies that will be advertised under BPSC 67th CCE Recruitment 2021. These physical measurements are provided in detail in the below sections.

The BPSC 67th CCE Interview round is to assess the general knowledge, personal traits and skills related to the post of the candidate. If the candidate is deemed suitable for the posts advertised under BPSC Combined Competitive Exam Recruitment 2021, they are asked to proceed for the document verification process.

Exam Pattern

The BPSC is a two-tier-based examination and candidates have to clear the Prelims as well as the Mains examination for the final selection. Overall there will be 150 questions for 1 mark each in Prelims and occupy candidates for 2 hours. Whereas, the main exam is based on a written test and is also called subjective Type examination.

BPSC Prelims Exam Pattern

The candidate will be given 150 questions that they have to complete within 120 minutes on an OMR based sheet. Multiple choice-based objective-type questions will be included in the BPSC  prelims and there is no negative marking.

The candidates can take the exam in three languages: English, Hindi, and Urdu as per the convenience.

Selection Process

The selection of the candidates is done based on merit marks scored and interviews. The following are the stages of the BPSC Selection process.

  • Conduction of the Prelims Exam of the Eligible Candidates after the successful online registration.
  • Shortlisting of the candidates for the Mains Exam will be based on their performance in the BPSC Prelims.
  • The candidates who qualify in the mains exam are shortlisted on the basis of the total merit marks and later called for an interview.
  • At the centre, the document verification round also takes place and the candidates need to be present with all the required original documents and certificates.

The finally selected candidates will receive their job letter/ order through the post to their communication address and the candidates have to join their posting at the prescribed date.
